Car Accident on I-85 in North Carolina

ARCHDALE, N.C. -- A mid-morning two-vehicle crash left two people dead, one passenger seriously injured and three with non life-threatening injuries.

According to Trooper G.L. Ingram of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a white Chevrolet pickup carrying pine needles was traveling northbound on the entrance ramp from N.C. 62 merging into Interstate 85 and failed to yield and was struck by the 1991 Honda Accord traveling northbound on I-85.

Both drivers were killed in the crash. Authorities said the driver of the Honda was 70-year-old Christiana Sekyi of Charlotte, and the driver of the Chevrolet was 80-year-old William “Bill” Ray Farlow of Archdale.

Farlow and two other men, Prince Kendall and Paul Barnes Sr., were delivering pine needles sold by the Quaker Men of Archdale Friends Meeting at the time of the accident.

Kendall was transported to Moses Cone hospital with broken ribs, a ruptured spleen and scheduled for emergency surgery. He is listed in serious condition.

Barnes, a former athletic director at Trinity High School, and the two passengers in the Honda were listed as having non-life threatening injures.

Farlow was a prominent and lifelong member of the Archdale-Trinity community and an active member of Archdale Friends Meeting. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1949 and earned his business degree from Jones Business College in High Point.

He operated Farlow Dairy until the 1990s and served on the Randolph County Board of Commissioners, where he served as chairman from 1970 to 1974.

“He was a pillar of Archdale Friends Meeting,” said David Mercadante, pastor of Archdale Friends Meeting. “He was a hard worker, dedicated to our church, and there’s no one like him. We are all going to miss him and are very saddened by our loss.”
