Rollover Wreck

An East Wake High School student who was critically injured in a car accident Monday in Knightdale has died of his injuries, a WakeMed spokeswoman said this afternoon.

The victim, Gavin William Boyd Westover,16, of Zebulon, was a passenger in a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro that ran off Puryear Road at 12:54 p.m. The car overturned several times after running off the road, the N.C. State Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of the Camaro, Austin Wade Marx, 17, of 204 Gail Ridge Road, was treated at WakeMed and released, the patrol reported.

Both teens were wearing seatbelts.

Investigating state trooper Beckley Vaughan said charges are pending because the car was going "well in excess" of the 55 mph speed limit.
